We are pleased to add Astragalus to our spagyrics offerings. Astragalus is used in both Western and in Traditional Chinese Medicine where it is known as Huang Qi. It is a member of the pea family and has beautiful purple/pink flowers. Its planetary influence is the Sun and its day of the week is Sunday.
Astragalus is an adaptogen which means it has been known to help reduce emotional, mental, and physical stress. It contains iron, zinc, folic acid, and choline as well as three essential ingredients: flavonoids (antioxidant), polysaccharides (stores energy), and saponins (helps eliminate toxins). It is one of the 50 basic herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is used to tonify spleen and lung qi.
Astragalus can be used for a variety of things but should not be used if you have Type 1 diabetes or any type of autoimmune disorder such as psoriasis, Chron’s disease, multiple sclerosis, lupus, or if you have had an organ transplant. It should not be taken while pregnant or breastfeeding.
